Over the past decade, the field and impact of peacebuilding has grown. At the same time, pressing global issues underline the need to create ever-greater connections to build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world. One proposition is to shift mental paradigms by viewing citizens as an essential source of new ideas. In turn – policymakers, business people, and other influencers would take on new roles to bring community-driven ideas to scale.  This is a FREE workshop.

If you are available to assist with interviewing outbound exchange students on Saturday, January 13, 2024, please notify Keenette Wilke in our club.  If you aren't already  a youth exchange volunteer you may go to http://www.ryehouston.com and complete the rotarians/volunteers and complete a volunteer application. This will be held in-person in Pasadena, TX.

We will hold an Open World Reunion with both of the Ukrainian teams we have sponsored in 2023 and 2021.  We will also invite Corpus Christi Rotary Club who will be hosting an Energy Independence Ukrainian team in 2024.

Our 2024 Rotary District 5890 Camp RYLA will be held Friday, February 9th through Sunday, February 11th.  

Our club has a table of 10 booked for this event at Safari Ranch on February 23, 2024 with Rotarians from all of the clubs in our District 5890.  We have 9 seats committed and one seat remaining.  Past Rotary International President Jennifer Jones willo be our speaker,  This is always a terrific event and inspirational for all Rotarians,

Lone Star PETS is the combined efforts of ten Rotary International Districts. They all converge on the Hyatt Regency Hotel at the DFW International Airport to jointly provide the best possible training for future Presidents of Rotary clubs. P.E.T.S. (PETS) is the acronym for “President Elect Training Seminar”.  The purpose of this site is to provide information to the participants.

Our DG Heather Rimato is so excited to have this opportunity to get to enjoy a night of fellowship together as a Rotary District at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo!  

Come join the fun and remember this is a great way to introduce prospective members to the FUN we have.  It's also a great event for family, friends, Interactors, Rotaractors, and Rotary Youth Exchange Students!  

George Yeiter is a retired CPA and Certified Financial Planner, and serves as a Rotary Community Volunteer. He has had a distinguished Rotary career having served in many capacities, including District Governor for District 5890 from 2003-04, Delegate to the Rotary International Council on Legislation, 2021-22 District 5890 The Rotary Foundation (TRF) Endowment Fund Co-Chair, 2021-22 Endowment Legacy Club Committee Member, Awardee of The Rotary Foundation’s Citation for Meritorious Service and Distinguished Service Award, and member of The Arch Klumph Society.

PDG George Yeiter will give an in-depth overview of The Rotary Foundation - why we ask for support every year and what is done with the funds.  "Every Rotarian Every Year" is our theme and we also encourage donations to End Polio Now.  The multiple levels of giving and recognition for each level will be explained.

Across the world, 50,000 people are forced to flee their homes each day as a result of conflict and oppression. Houston is one of the country’s leading cities in refugee resettlement, but resources to get refugees started in their new lives are limited. Settling into a new home can be very difficult, particularly for young people and those who have suffered trauma in their early lives. 

Amaanah Refugee Services steps in to help, with services that assist with education, healthcare and overall wellbeing.  Melissa Ramon is a Rotarian in the Rotary Club of West University in D5890 and recently joined the team at Amaanah to assist with Fundraising as their Major Gifts Officer.  Amaanah recently celebrated their 15 years of service with a successful Gala on March 30, 2024.
