It's a Wrap!  D 5890 All-Club Meeting
On Thursday, February 19, 2026 our Rotary District's All-Club Meeting was held at Safari Ranch in Richmond, Texas.  Our club was represented by the following members:  President & PDG Nick Giannone, PDG Ed Charlesworth, Robin Charlesworth, Ed Socha,  Robert Stein, and our two newest members Daniel Casper and Sir Billy Dorsey.  Additional guests at our table were Fabiola Giannone and Carol Stein.   Our club's exchange student from Brazil was sponsored by. our club and also sat at our table.  Prior to the meeting we were also represented at the EXPO by Robin Charlesworth's ICC (Intercountry Committee) table and tables promoted by Dr. Nick Giannone for Umbilical Cord Blood Donations.  DG Tom Kelchner also invited Nick to present with a panel of experts a brief introduction to the concept of cord blood donations.  The keynote speaker was representing the Bill Gates Foundation,  Andrew Stein.  He is the Deputy Director of Polio Program's Outbreak Teams with the Gates Foundation.  An iron lung was on display as you entered the building which was relied upon by polio patients to maintain breathing ability.  Rotary maintains our commitment to eradicate polio so future generations will not suffer from this disease.

COMMUNITY SERVICE UPDATE

As an active member of the Rotary e-Club of Houston we are reminding all to actively participate in service projects in your geography or sphere of influence.

February / March 2026
The Houston E-Club community service theme for February and March is Volunteerism – Health, Water & Sanitation – Polio. This is an opportunity for our E-club to focus on some KEY Rotary Areas of global service. Please spread the word and participate locally, individually in the name of rotary, and join our club in targeted events to demonstrate ACTIVE Volunteerism making the world and our communities a better place.
As the Rotary E-Club of Houston is a virtual club, this month is a great time to highlight opportunities in the Virtual Volunteer realm. Shown below are organization links specifically designed to provide virtual service participation opportunities:
Additional focus should also be given to the global perspective provided through Rotary International. The RI focus for the months of February and March are:
  • February – Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention Month
  • March – Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Month
Be proactive and represent Rotary wherever you are and please do so often!

Program:  "A Surprisingly Effective way to Fight Misinformation"
What if the best defense against misinformation isn’t panic, but a punchline? Journalist and comedian Dave Jorgenson explores how misinformation has proliferated throughout history — from the age of Plato to the era of viral TikToks. With his own short, absurdist sketches that explain the news, he shows how humor can cut through fear, spark curiosity and explore nuanced truth.  Enjoy this TedTalk with Dave Jorgenson from TedNext2025.

Fundraiser - KROGER'S or City Market
We all buy groceries and now our dollars spent at Kroger's will return a portion to our Rotary club.  We have become a part of the NPO (Non-Profit Organization) Kroger Community Rewards Program.  If you are already part. of this program, it is possible to change your designated charity.  How?
Visit http://www.kroger.com. Once logged into their Kroger account, search for ROTARY E-CLUB OF HOUSTON, TEXAS USA either by name or BG564 and then click Enroll. New users will need to create an account which requires some basic information, a valid email address and a rewards card.  If you previously participated in this reward program, you may now change your choice to Rotary e-Club of Houston.

We have received a check for about $31.00 for the second quarter of the calendar year.  We need to get more members registered for our club to earn more money.

*Customers must have a registered Kroger rewards card account to link to your organization.
*If a member does not yet have a Kroger rewards card, please inquire at the customer service desk at any Kroger

NOTE:  REMEMBER, purchases will not count for our organization until after our members  register their rewardscard.
Participants must swipe their registered Kroger rewards card or use the phone number that is related to their registered Kroger rewards card when shopping for each purchase to count.

The monies earned here will be deposited into our club foundation account to be used solely for service projects.

Since our club hopes to support worthy service projects, yet we don't have a strong track record with fundraising, we ask that you support our Roary club with. your purchases while grocery shopping.

The Four-Way Test of Rotary
The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings:
Of the things we think, say or do

First, Is it the TRUTH?
Second, Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Third, Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
and Fourth, Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
