Firefighters suffer illnesses, especially cancers, at a statistically higher rate than the average population, primarily because they have occupational risks from the exposure to toxins and hazardous chemicals.

Treatments for these illnesses are usually done on an out-patient basis, which results in the necessity for the patients to find short-term lodging near the Texas Medical Center.  While there are a few facilities which offer temporary housing at low or no cost, those facilities have a long waiting list.  The alternative is to stay at a local hotel, the cost of which can be crippling for both the patient and their family.

Mission Statement:

The mission of RFFH is to provide temporary housing for firefighters and first responders while they are undergoing treatment as noted above.
